We gather at 10:30 am, although most people arrive a bit early to visit or to sit quietly to prepare for worship. If you are late, please come right in and have a seat. You won't disturb anybody and we are happy that you are joining us! The first Sunday of each month we have a hymn sing for 15 minutes before the service. We welcome all suggestions of favorites to sing at this time. An usher will greet you at the door if you come through the main doors at the front of the church on MacKay Street. You will be given an order of service or "bulletin" which tells you what takes place during the service (hymns, prayers, readings, title of the message or sermon). You can also enter at the side door on Dufferin Ave. in which case you will have to make your way through a few rooms to get to the sanctuary. Wheel chair accessible entrance is at the Dufferin Ave. side through the double doors of the Memorial Hall near the small parking lot. Parking is mainly on the streets. Children and babies sit with their parent(s) for the first few minutes of the service at which time the children are invited up to the front of the sanctuary for Children's Time. After a special song they and their teachers go to the Memorial Hall for a time together and then go off to their respective classes for Sunday School. If you are new to the church feel free to go with your child to Sunday School. The Nan Slinn Nursery and Playroom is on the second floor and is staffed by an adult and a young person. The service is 'piped' into the nursery so you can hear it if you choose to remain with your child. A wall-mounted change table is located in the washroom near the nursery. Access to the nursery is through the door at the front right side of the sanctuary and up the stairs. Please ask if you need directions, some one will be happy to take you. An Offering is taken during the service. This is not a 'charge' for the service! Worship at MacKay is free and open to anyone and everyone! The offering is a free will offering that enables our church to keep our doors open and provide services and outreach, faith formation, caring and healing, for anyone in our community. All of our expenses are met by the voluntary free will offering on Sunday mornings and we receive no grants. Some people choose to give their offering through PAR (Pre-authorized remittance) which is arranged through the church office to have a set amount of money debited from your bank account to MacKay United Church on a regular basis. This enables the church to receive your donation whether or not you able to attend each Sunday, and greatly helps to prepare the annual budget. This can be arranged or stopped at any time. The worship service usually lasts for an hour after which you are invited to the Memorial Hall for "Talk Time" for fellowship and refreshments. We strive to have a meaningful worship service that will nourish you spiritually. |
