New Edinburgh Players Theatre Production “A little over half of the Player's life has been spent in their "new" home, being MacKay United Church where we moved from the former Crichton Street School in 1992. And we are looking forward to many more joyful events at these premises.” Ingrid McCarthy, Director and Producer In January of each year the New Edinburgh Players start rehearsing for the annual production. Tickets are sold by various groups with the proceeds benefiting charitable organizations. St. Bartholomew’s Church supports Harmony House and The Bale (adult literacy programme); ECOEQUITABLE INC. (a work training program aimed mainly at immigrant women); Jane Caskey distributes tickets to Amethyst House (women’s treatment centre for drug and alcohol abuse), Serenity Renewal for Families (addiction treatment centre), the Breast Cancer Network and Citizen Advocacy; Salus (supporting housing for disabled); and especially MacKay which is a major beneficiary. Busybody A comedy by Jack Popplewell April 7,8,9 and 13,14,15,16, 2011 MacKay Fundraising nights are Thursday the 7th and Friday the 15th Tickets $20 available from office Detective Superintendent Harry Baxter is plagued by a head cold and two busybodies - a corpse that vanishes and the officious office cleaner, Mrs. Piper, who found it. Trying to glean facts from the morass of Mrs. Piper's chatty verbosity requires Baxter's never large store of tact and patience. Motives for murder abound - all the office staff and the corpse's wife are suspect. His self-control snaps completely when the corpse walks in alive and well. But Mrs. Piper still insists that there was a body, though she no longer knows whose. Baxter is persuaded to continue his investigation, enthusiastically hindered by Mrs. Piper. The play, although a murder mystery, is sheer comedy from beginning to end.
