Welcome Back!  Sunday School Registration September 11, 2011

MacKay holds weekly classes for children and youth on Sunday mornings during worship.  Children participate in the opening prayers and hymns, and then listen to a special children’s story before participating in classes.  Special events include an annual Christmas pageant, end of year celebration in June, opening registration and congregational lunch in September and the occasional presentation of short plays to the congregation.

Three classes are provided: kindergarten, elementary and Youth Group.  Each class is following the Seasons of the Spirit curriculum.  This program is focused on scripture and encourages understanding and interaction with others.  A communicants class is held in the spring.

The Sunday School’s millennium project, a book of short children’s stories entitled Sunday Best, was completed in 2000 with the support of an editorial team and the 125th Anniversary Committee. Copies may be obtained for $10 each by contacting the church office.   Sales of proceeds are  for the benefit of the Renewal Fund.

New volunteers are welcome and sought, including regular teachers, caregivers and those who could help with music or special events.

Our family tree in the
Nan Slinn Nursery & Playroom

  "Where God Is"

There was a little boy,
On the week's first day,
Coming home from Sunday School
And wandering on the way.

He scuffed his shoes into the grass
And found a caterpillar.
He found a fluffy milkweed pod
And blew out all the filler.

A bird's nest in a tree above,
So wisely placed on high,
Was just another wonder
That caught his eager eye.

A neighbour watched his crooked course
And hailed him from the lawn.
He asked him where he'd been that day
And what was going on.

"I've been to Sunday School," he said
As he turned a piece of sod,
And picking up a worm, he smiled,
"I've learned a lot from God!"

"That's a fine way," the neighbour said,
"For a boy to spend his time.
"Now if you can tell me where God is,
I'll give you a brand new dime."

Quick as a flash the answer came,
The boy said without complaint,
"I'll give you a dollar, Mister,
If you can tell me where God ain't!"
